527s                                                                                Back

Should the 527s be disbanded? Absolutely not & I'll tell you why. the 527s are the people's way of getting out information on the things they feel strongly about. The political parties can't tackle every issue during a campaign. If I feel strongly that the government isn't doing enough to clean up a toxic waste dump near my home & If I can prove a connection with the E.P.A. & the company's C.E.O. I should have the right to let other voters what that proof is.
I said earlier that the 527s have a right to say what they want but that we should not take their word as gospel. We should verify what they say. The problem is that the vast amount of voters don't bother to search for the truth. That is how friends of George Bush got away with their attacks against John McCain, Al Gore, Max Cleland, and are now trying to smear John Kerry.
George Bush is now attacking all the 527s. (No he's attacking the truth) When Moveon.org placed an ad, that couldn't be verified, about George Bush's lack of proof of his service in the Alabama National Guard. John Kerry publicly denounced that ad. Now several groups have asked George Bush to denounce the ads, that have been proven to be false, by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. (Truth, Ha! They have, in the past, bragged about John Kerry's record in Vietnam, accepted medals for the same action, stated publicly that they weren't there & didn't know John Kerry at the time.) He (George Bush) whose campaign has been, at least circumstantially, connected to the (Swift Boat Veterans for truth.) says he honors Kerry military record but wants John Kerry to denounce all of the 527s. He won't denounce the one add unless both parties denounce all ads by 527s.
I for one wouldn't want ads, that are truthful, to be denounced. I've gotten a lot of information from these ads, things I didn't know. One add mentioned that George Bush was poisoning pregnant women, granted it is quite slanderous and a stretch of the truth but upon researching the information I found the E.P.A.s own warnings to pregnant women on eating fish. A problem that has been getting worse since the Bush administration has taken control of the E.P.A. & dismantled many of the clean water laws. (See the Environment) So it (The ad) had some validation.
I've said a lot of things against George Bush but I never called him political stupid. He knows that the 527s can hurt him by bringing to the forefront his record on many, many issues. So he wants them all denounced. If John Kerry colludes with a corporation or an environmental group to pass laws that are detrimental to people, I'd also want a 527 to point that out to me.  (When you have millions more then your opponent, you don't want to give up that advantage.) Which make me think, maybe you should ask yourself who is giving how much to whom and why?
   Hip, Hip, Harrah! for 527s
