A day at the beach |
By Uncle Butch
|
The girls woke early and Joni Ann was grumpy, |
she kept complaining that her bed was lumpy.
Candace said to Joni Ann “Quite your whining,
look outside the sun is shining.”
Mommy said to the girls “If you’ll be good,
we’ll jump in the car and go to Wildwood.”
So we packed the trunk and jumped into the car,
we were in a hurry because they had to go far.
We parked the car, the girls jumped out of their door.
and they went running down to the shore.
We spread our blanket in the sun,
and then it was time to have some fun.
There were lots of gulls who wanted to be fed,
they flew and flew around Kristin’s head.
They landed on the beach and pecked at Candace’s feet,
they were telling her to give them something to eat.
Joni Ann showed that she was brave,
when she got knocked down by a giant wave.
She just got up and went back in the ocean
and swam way out in a fluid motion.
Joni Ann said “Mommy, this is a hassle,
the waves keep knocking down my sand castle."
So Candace lay in the sand, like she was in bed
and the other girls buried her up to her head.
The waves got big and the surf got rough,
so we picked up our blanket and our other stuff.
We went down to the dock and got a boat,
I wasn’t even sure the thing would float.
The bay was choppy, the boat went up and down,
and the water was splashing all around.
Joni Ann got sick and said that she might puke
and just then Kristin caught a great big fluke.
Kristin was happy when she got her wish,
she always wanted to catch a great big fish.
The fish looked sad but it was his fate,
he never should have taken Kristin’s bate.
Joni Ann felt better, but still wanted to go,
so we pulled up the anchor and cruised real slow.
We threw out the anchor and the boat it stayed,
and Candace went in the bay to wade.
Kristin said “Candace, listen to what I say,
you better be careful, there are crabs in the bay.”
Candace turned around, laughed and said “So”.
and just then a crab grabbed her by the big toe.
Kristin said “Candace I told you so.”
As mommy was taking the crab off of her toe.
I swear the crab had a smile on his face,
As he ran into the bay at a frantic pace.
So Kristin caught a fish and Candace caught a crab,
Even though on her toe she would have a scab.
Well we still had time till the day was done,
So we went on the boardwalk to have more fun.
While on the boardwalk they heard that sound,
|
and jumped and ran to the Merry-go-round. |
Kristin rode a zebra and Candace rode a horse
and Joni Ann, she rode a lion of course.
Candace was in an arcade, trying to win some toys.
Kristin was on the boardwalk, checking out the boys.
The rest of us were on a pier, watching a kite in the sky,
And we were all eating a pizza pie.
Candace won a teddy bear, she got three bars,
Mommy took Joni Ann on the bumper cars.
Kristin found a boy she thought was cute,
She said he looked good in his bathing suit.
|
|
Not long after we finished our meal
Joni Ann wanted to go on the Ferris wheel.
They went on a roller coaster, up and down.
They went on a tilt and whirl round and round.
A group of boys were acting like jerks,
while we were watching the fireworks.
The boy Kristin liked was in that crowd,
they were teasing a bunch of girls really loud.
The boardwalk was closing and our day was done.
Another day that was lots of fun.
When we got back in the car Joni Ann got grumpy,
she didn’t want to go back to a bed that was lumpy.
