Back A day at the zoo:
By Uncle Butch
Kristin and Candace & Joni Ann
went to the zoo in a bright yellow Van.
There were monkeys and donkeys and a kangaroo,
elephants and tigers and lions too.
The monkeys were playing up high in trees.
A zebra was using his tail to swat fleas.
A lion was in a terrible rage
he really didn't like his cage
He shook the door and shook the door,
then sat down moping on the floor.
Kristin was busy chasing a goose.
and that was when the lion got loose.
The lion had a big smile on his face.
he couldn't wait to get out of that place.
The lion was thinking that something stunk,
he looked around and saw a skunk.
The skunk he saw the lion too,
he lifted his tail pee u pee u.
Joni Ann and Candace fell down on their knees,
they couldn't stop laughing when they heard an elephant sneeze.
The sneeze it came from way down in his trunk,
you might sneeze too if you smelled a skunk.
The lion ran, his legs like a piston
and that is when he ran into Kristin.
Kristin was scared as scared can be
till the lion said "Don’t worry about me."
Then the lion asked Kristin with a great big smile,
if she would like to go with him for awhile.
Kristin said “I’ll go with you
if you will let my sisters come too.”
When they found the girls, laughing and still on the ground,
the lion thought “These girls will be fun to have around
After all the introductions were done,
he said let’s go, we’re going to have fun.
“Now you know I won’t attack,
I’ll even let the little one ride on my back.”
Joni Ann, she thought I must be insane,
as she climbed on his back and grabbed hold of his mane.
If they got to the gate they would have some hope,
so the lion broke into a long legged lope.
When they got through the gate, the lion got giddy,
it wasn’t far to the edge of the city.
and by the way you can call me Bill.”
Bill got nervous when he saw the city,
after all he was only a great big kitty.
Kristin told Bill “Well have a ball,
Let’s take a walk to Independence Hall.”
The sun was shinning and the day was swell,
but there was a huge crowd at the Liberty Bell.
They passed a church and there was a marriage
As they climbed in and before they were sitten,
the horse saw Bill and knew he wasn’t a kitten.
The horse, he took off running down the street,
the newlyweds finally got into their seat.
Bill stood up and roared with pride,
he knew he was responsible for their exciting ride.
It didn’t take long, they followed a lark
and soon found themselves in Fairmont Park.
Joni Ann said “Hey! We are in a park,
let’s stay and play till it gets dark.
It’s hard for a lion to play ‘hide and seek’
especially when Joni Ann keeps sneaking a peek.
Kristin wanted to tumble and it wasn’t Bills fault
but lions just can’t do a summersault.
and ’tug o war’ when they found a rag.
Finally tired they sat on the ground
and no one was even making a sound.
Bill got hungry, he needed something to eat,
|
he looked around and saw Candace’s feet. |
He told her he needed something in his tummy
|
and
said that her feet looked mighty yummy. |
Candace said to Bill, while hiding her feet,
“Come with me, we’ll get something to eat.”
Kristin found a money lender
and they all took Bill to a hotdog vender.
Everybody came even the cop on the beat,
they all gathered around to watch the lion eat.
Bill he said “These hotdogs are yummy."
and he quickly put 20 down in his tummy.
After they ate, they went back to the park,
It was getting late and it was getting dark.
Bill said he was to tired to roam
and asked if the girls would please take him home
So they waited on a corner and caught a bus.
They had never seen a driver make such a fuss,
but the driver finally let the lion on too,
and he took them all back to the zoo.
As Bill went through the gate he turned with a sigh,
and sadly licked all the girls goodbye.
The girls they kissed the lion too,
and with a hug said “We love you.”
The girls were sad that the day was done,
they couldn’t remember having so much fun.
They turned around and hand in hand,
found their way back to the yellow van.
