Back                                                              Appointees

Appointees are another thing we have to think about when voting for the president. We have seen during the last seven years just how important appointees are.
Lets take a good look at how much damage has been done to our country by the poor chooses of this administration:
The Bush Administration:
Christy Todd Whitman:  Was appointed to head the Environmental Protection Agency. While heading the department after 9/11 assured New Yorkers that it was safe to work in Lower Manhattan. Saying that the toxins released by the collapse of the World Trade Center posed no threat to the water or air. This even though she didn't have sufficient data. She is now, along with the EPA, being sued by a group of rescue workers who have serious respiratory and other long term health problems.
Attorney General John Ashcroft, still to this day won't admit that "Water Boarding." (which happened during his term of office) is torture, even though we tried Japanese soldiers for war crimes for using it during World War II.
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales who used the office as a rubber stamp for Bush/Chaney. He is still under investigation for having his investigators go after democrats while ignoring republicans, even when the information against the democrats was slim: For the dismissal of seven U. S. Attorneys for not being loyal to the republican party.
Attorney General Michael Mukasey:  Another rubber stamp for the administration. I watched his hearing and then watched him do a 180 degree turn on his stance of torture. Say one thing, do another.
Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff:  We all know what happened after Hurricane Katrina but we might not know that he issued waivers allowing the dept. to ignore 30 laws, including laws protecting the environment, Native American graves, and religious freedom. when the dept. was working on a 700 mile fence along the U.S./Mexican border. He also oversaw the departments surveillance of Anti-war and death penalty groups. People I'm actually for the death penalty but I'm against spying on people who just express their views and that goes for every group. Americans have the right to freely speak their minds.
U.S. Ambassador to the U. N. John R. Bolton:  I'm not even going to say anything about him. Read his résumé
Gordon England: Deputy Defense Secretary who has presided over billions in missing dollars of Iraqi reconstruction appropriations.
All in all the appointees of this administration have helped trash our constitution and gave us a bad name all around the world.

Some possible appointees by McCain:

Phil Gramm: Just recently resigned as John McCains' Presidential campaign co-chair after making the remarks:
"You've heard of mental depression, this is a mental recession." and "We have sort of become a nation of whiners." while talking about the state of the economy.
He was and probably still is (He only stepped down from the campaign, he still has McCains' ear.) one of McCains' top economic advisers.
People, here is a man who sponsored the bill that contained the "Enron loophole." (While his wife sat on the board of directors of Enron.) A man who has since leaving the Senate has taken a job as lobbyist for a Swiss bank that is at the center of the housing credit crisis. Gramm would be a possible nominee for Secretary of Labor or Commerce.
Terry Nelson:  Campaign Manager: A Karl Rove protégé. Resigned from the McCain Campaign. Read his bio'. He could be considered for a ambassadorship. (He only resigned because of media pressure.)
John Weaver:  Chief Strategist: Resigned from the Campaign
Tom Loeffler: A lobbyist representing clients including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was an advisor to McCain before resigning on May 19th. after heat from the press about McCain's' campaign being full of Lobbyists. Could he get a post as the ambassador to Saudi Arabia?
Rick Davis: The new chairman of the McCain Campaign. A possible appointment to the board of the FCC. or a ambassadorship to Russia or Montenegro. After all he lobbied for all of them
Wayne Berman: Lobbyist & Owner, Berman Enterprises, Inc. & Still an active lobbyist for Ogilvy Government Relations. Maybe he'll just go back to lobbying, after all look at the influence he'd have.
McCain might also retain some of the Bush appointees.  Yuck!

People how is it possible that a man who condemns lobbyists can have so many of them running his campaign?

Some possible appointees by Obama:

Joe Biden:   Could be Secretary of Defense
Hillery Clinton: Health & Human Services
   John Edwards:  Security of Labor
Al Gore: Could head the E.P.A. or Department of the Interior
Chuck Hegal:  for the Department of Homeland Security
Bill Richardson:  Might be a good chose for Secretary of State
Jim Webb:  Could also be Secretary of Defense
This is only a sampling but I hope you see the difference.   Al
