Back Australian women railroaded.
This page is black because it's a black day for all international tourists that have fallen in love with The Isle of the Gods.
Schapelle Corby an Australian from Queensland was found guilty of smuggling drugs into Bali and sentenced to 20 years in jail. Three judges at a non-jury trial dismissed defense arguments and handed down the verdict.
I've flown in and out of Ngurah Rai Airport on three different occasions in the past fifteen years and I can tell you, as any of us who have traveled to Bali can, that nothing and I mean nothing gets past the custom agents. I've been thoroughly searched every time I've entered the Island.
Schapelle Corby, being from Australia, had to have known that the chances of getting 9 Lbs of grass into Bali was damn near impossible. She also had to know that the maximum sentence was death and that the Indonesian Government would be trying to set an example of a westerner. I have watched her speak and she doesn't appear to be stupid. In fact she seemed pretty damned intelligent. Now when you leave your bags in the care of someone else at the airline and you don't have a really good lock, anyone can put something in your bag, right?
So it is very possible that someone set her up. Not to get her in trouble but to get the drugs onto Bali. If she clears customs her bag can be grabbed out of her hand and the person who took it has his drugs. If she get stopped, she's the one in trouble and all the drug dealer losses is 9 lbs. of Grass.
It's a well known fact that the Indonesian Government is not free of corruption. So anything is possible. The judges dismissed key evidence prepared by her defense team, including that of Australia prisoner John Ford who backed Corby's claim that she was an unwitting "drug mule."
I'm not sure of the facts, so I can't say she is innocent but there is no proof of her guilt except the fact that it was in her bag. How it got there is up in the air.
Now, I love Bali but I for one won't be going back there until I see some justice. I also won't be importing any Indonesian products. It could have been me.
I'm calling for all tourists to boycott Indonesia until the international community resolves this issue. We can and must use our power (Tourist dollars) to make the Indonesian Government reform their judicial system..
