Bali Bird Park                                                            Back
.
It was hot, hot & humid. All I could think of was that back home it was fall & the air was cool. I loved being on Bali
but I would have liked to have been on a beach, any beach. I wasn't, I was at Bali Reptile Park.
Bali reptile park is the sister park to Bali Bird Park. Noyman & I were heading to Batubulan Village where I was going to try and find some nice stone carvings. Bali Bird Park just happened to be on the way, so since we had some time to kill I thought why not check it out. We decided to do the reptile park first. After paying the admission (Noyman didn't have to pay, his commission for bringing me.) we entered the park. It wasn't as large as some I've been to but it did have a few features I really liked. The first was that it had Komodo Dragons. I had wanted to take a side trip to Komodo Island to see the dragons in  the wild, (I still do & next time I get to Bali I'm planning for that trip.) so even though these guys were behind glass I did get to see dragons. Then there was the area where you could interact with some of the lizards & large snakes.
Behind the two sets of doors they had Green Iguanas, Monitor Lizards, Pythons and Tortoises. I had Noyman take some video of me with the lizards & a beautiful albino Burmese Python. While we were there an Australian family came in with their two little girls. The oldest was eight but small for her age. While her little sister, who was about four, found a Tortoise to play with she spotted my snake and immediately decided he was for her. So after I put him down she grabbed him by the tail and sitting on the ground proceeded to drag the poor animal back onto her lap. (I could just picture this snake with a large lump in the center of his body & a smile on his face, belching.) She picked up the center of his body and knocked her hat off trying to put him over her shoulders. (You guessed right. The snake was soon wearing a hat.) This scenario lasted for about twenty minutes, with the snake slithering the length of his body away from her, and since she still had his tail she'd pull him back and they would start all over again. (I'm sorry, but a Python shouldn't be caught dead wearing a girls hat.) Finally after holding his face up to hers, she gave him a kiss on the head and let him go.
During this little play, (I'm sure she was getting as much fun out of our reaction as she was out of the snake, though she didn't let us know.) I was not only getting it on video but talking with her parents. Her mother was only worried about one thing and that was that she might get to relaxed around reptiles. Remember they were from Australia where a very large number of the indigenous reptiles are extremely poisonous. I hope when she got home she didn't find any snakes in her backyard. Anyway the snake was free and we left the reptiles and went to see the birds. I have a cute video of her with the snake & will try to put it on this site in the future. Come with me to see the birds.
