Back Donald Rumsfeld
10/26/06: This is ridiculous. Today at a press conference I heard Donald Rumsfeld state, when asked by a reporter, how we could bring stability to the new Iraqi government when Prim Minister Iyad Allawi refuses to disband the militias. It was an answer that made me sit up, with my mouth open and scratch my head. His statement was, that the only way the Government of Iraq could accomplishment that mission was to bring the militias into the government. To give them a say in how the country was run.
People are we really that crazy? Have we learned nothing from Hezbollah being brought into the government of Lebanon? or Hammas being a part of the government of Palestine? Haven't I heard, time and time again, that a government within a government will destroy that government. People the militias aren't like our political parties they're just what they are called militias. Groups of armed thugs that win what they want by intimidation, not by compromise.
I have been saying, since the first time we compromised with Muqtada al-Sadr, that we were making a big mistake. al-Sadr is closely affiliated with the government of Iran and Iran was the country we should have attacked in the first place. Now Donald Rumsfeld is willing to allow his Mahdi Army to be brought into the Iraqi government and at the same time says we're winning over there. Now maybe I'm stupid, but to me that isn't a victory. Al
