Back                                                      Earthquake in Indonesia

On May 27th 2006 a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck just south of Yogyakarta in Central Java in Indonesia killing some 5,000 people and injuring some 4,000 more. Entire villages and a large portion of Yogyakarta was totally destroyed.
I was in Yogyakarta in 1998 and loved the city and it's people. Although poor, they were some of the most gracious people I've ever met. Everywhere I went, in that lovely town, I was greeted with hospitality and friendship. I wrote this article in 1999 after returning home.  Yogyakarta
They now need our help. Let's show the people of this lovely island nation just what Americans stand for: Friendship, understanding and compassion. Let us show them, what they showed me and every other tourist I talked to while there. Let's put our hands out in friendship and help these wonderful people.
I asked for your help for the victims of the the Tsunami in 2004 and I ask you again. All the organizations that helped in that disaster will be helping in this one. So I'm going to send you to that page as it has all the links you'll need in order to help. Tsunami:
Thank you for helping,    Al Grove
