The Fight against Terror:                                             Back

George Bush holds a large lead over John Kerry in the trust of the American people on the war on terrorism. So lets take a good look at why and then let's take a look at the facts.
For many years the Republican Party has tried & in most cases succeeded in painting the Democratic Party as being weak on defense. This even though Democratic Presidents have led us through most of the major wars of this century. Republicans have always backed their corporate friends, especially military contractors. PORK? A lot of the programs they have pushed were either redundant, unnecessary or even expected to be obsolete by the time they came on line. That didn't matter they wanted to get the contracts for their districts or supporters.
When they received opposition from the democrats they would use the media to portray the democrats as weak. This kind of politics have been going on for years. Scare the public and you can force your opponents to vote your way.
Now along comes George Bush. We have only to look at the 9/11 report and read Against All Enemies by Richard Clark to find out just how strong George Bush was before 9/11. Bill Clinton, even with Whitewater & Monica hanging over his presidency and the Republican Party cutting into his power, managed to intercept, disrupt, and prevent several terrorist actions against America. He took out a terror training camp in Afghanistan & a chemical plant in the Sudan. For that effort he received the "Wag the dog." comments from the Republican Party. George Bush didn't even meet with his Terror Czar till a few days before the attack. Donald Rumsfeld stated that he didn't want to hear anymore about terrorism even though the former administration had warned the administration that terrorism, and especially bin Laden were going to be the most important item on their agenda. Well you saw the results of their lack of attention to terrorism. I'm not saying that 9/11 could have been stopped but with no one minding the store it sure made it easier for them.
Some things to think about: Why didn't the new administration pay any attention to the previous administration's warnings about terrorism? Why didn't the the president act when informed in a PDB that al-Qa'ida was determined to strike within the United States? Why did George Bush sit in a classroom full of kids while America was being attacked? Why did they rescind an order to take out Abu Musab al-Zarqawi before the start of the Iraq war? How come the commanders on the ground weren't warned of massive amounts of explosives at the Al-Qaqaa base? George Bush equates strength with stubbornness. I equate strength with intelligence.
Back to the main topic. George Bush's political machine have been misleading us for months on John Kerry's record. taking things out of context and putting them into sound bites. They've used the media like used car salesmen. They have been spinning, even the things he says, to meet their views. A good example is the statement "I actually did vote for the bill, before I voted against it." even though Kerry had a good reason for voting against the second bill. When you hear something over and over again, even though it's not true, you start to believe it's true.
I always believed that the American people were some of the most intelligent people on earth, I'm sorry but that belief is starting to crumble. It seems that it's more important, to the American public, that they get to watch their soap operas & game shows and get their political information from the sound bite commercials then to take the time to do the research needed to make an informed decision. If you are one of these you better read the rest of my section on the present Presidential election.
