Films                                                               Back
.
                                        Different films give different effects:
   1. The most obvious is black & white & Color
   2. In color you have positive (Slide) & Negative (Print).
   3. Today you have digital.
.
Let's talk a little about black & white
   Agfa
  1. Different speeds give different results:   I will add examples here. when I get the time.
1a. Faster speed films. i.e. higher a.s.a. #s 400 1000 etc. You will be able to freeze
action and it can be used in lower light.
       1a1. Problems:
           a. Grainer will produce a poor enlargement (grain is the silver on the
film that has been stabilized by light.) the light area on the print. It won't affect
the real black or the white areas It affect the gray areas. Grain seperates as you
enlarge the photo & will breakdown the image.
           b. Will give less contrast: this can be a benefit or a loss. Sometimes less contrast
may make for a better photo. You can get more & better shadow detail.
         1a1. Benefits:
            a. Faster will give you a image where you wouldn't be able to get one with slower
                films. low light situations.
            b. since you'll be able to use faster shutter speeds you'll be able to freeze action.
                Good for sports.
     1b.  Slower speed films: 25 a.s.a. etc.
1a.  Plus: Better enlargements, more contrast, sharper image.
1b.  minus: less shadow detail, slower speed for action, less depth of field (You'll
be shooting with your aperture opened wider to allow for extra light)
.
                                          Color Negative film (Prints)
.
    l. Everything above carries over to color film except that the color saturation will be
better in the lower a.s.a. films.
    2. different film types: i.e. Kodak, Fuji, Agfa, etc. have different color qualities
some are better for flesh, others better green, red, blue etc. check by clicking on
         the types above,
                                           Color: Positive (Slide film)
.
                  Check: Kodak   Fuji
    1.  Not only do they give you the advantage of being able to be viewed on a screen but
since they have a finer grain, you'll get better enlargements. Most major magazines
         require slides rather then prints.
    2. Grain: The same rules as above apply, only since we already have better grain are not
         as important.
    3.  Color saturation will be less in the higher speed films.
TIP: For better color saturation try underexposing the film. (try setting your camera at
          1 1/2 to 2 times the recommendation on film. i.e. set 64 a.s.a at 100 or 120 a.s.a.. On
color print film this would over expose your film.
Shoot both slow and fast film and see the differences. Carry both with you on vacation.
.This section will be up soon. However for now the Kodak link is working.
