| Filters hold back
different wave lengths of light, allowing others to reach the film. |

Filters for Black & White Photography: |

| 1. A red filter
will lighten red, a blue
will lighten blue, Etc. Click Here

| a. So a red
filter will greatly increase contrast of sky, making the sky darker & |
| clouds lighter. also
make waves stand out as it will darken the ocean. |
| b. a green filter
will lighten green & darken red, apples will stand
out from the green |
| leaves. |

Filters for Black & White or Color Photography: |

| 1. U. V. filters such as skylight will reduce
haze making distance objects clearer. |
| 2. Neutral density filters will allow you to
slow down your film speed. |
| 2a. Why? Remember
depth of field! The slower the film, the wider the aperture, the |
|
less depth of field. Allows you to emphases your subject. |
| 3. Polarizing filters cut glare, will allow you
to shoot showroom windows or a lake. |
| Good for Black &
White or color film. |
| 4. Specialty filters: |
| a. Star filters have thin
wires crossing within the glass, these wires |
|
reflect the light making any strong light source into a star. |
| b. Soft focus filters: Blur
the image slightly. Good for portraits romantic scenes. |
| c. Center spot filters:
Allows the center of photo to be sharp while blurring the |
|
outside edges. Emphases the main image |
| d. Close up filters: What
else can I say, they magnify. |
