Lies that led us to War.                                               Back

Bill Clinton lied before Congress. "I never had sex with Monica Lowinsky." For this he was impeached. He won the impeachment but the Republican Party made a big deal about it. It had nothing to do with his ability to govern or national defense. Now we have a president who just says what he wants to say, no matter what the facts are. He lies with a straight face in order to get the things he wants. An good example was when he withheld the total cost of his proscription drug plan. He went so far as threatening any one who leaked the real cost. This is a man I would never buy a used car off of, yet he's running my country.

The Statements below are from Joseph Wilson   Read  "The Politics of Truth"
On July 6th. I stated in an article for the New York Times I stated that the Bush administration had been informed a year and a half earlier that their claims of Iraqi attempts to purchase uranium from Niger were false. I knew what information the administration had because in early March I had briefed the C.I.A. on a trip I had made for them to that African country.  This is more information George Bush withheld from the American people. I can remember him stating in a speech that Saddam was trying to buy the uranium, it was one of the reasons for our war with Iraq.  With all of the information that has come out (since we went to war) about his statements do you still trust him? More important are you going to trust him for four more years?  Read below to see what George Bush did with the information that there was NO truth in the fact that Saddam was trying to buy uranium.
On Jan. 28th 2003. Speaking before Congress, the nation & the world, President Bush had confidently declared: "The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa."

The 9/11 Commission stated that there was no proof of an Iraqi/al-Qa'ida connection. See pgs. 228/229 of the report
The one most important reason that they (The Bush administration) had for making the connection, was that Muhammad Atta had a meeting in Prague, Czech Republic with an Iraqi operative named Ahmed al-Ani. The administration has stood by this account even though the F. B. I. stated, that at the time of the meeting he (Atta) was in Florida and making calls on his cell phone.  George Bush had been informed of these facts before he went to Congress.
Again George Bust stated to Congress, The Nation & The World, that he had proof of a connection between Al-Qu'ida & Saddam Hussein.

George Bush led us to believe we would be greeted as liberators, which we were at first, even though the C.I.A. had warned him many times that we would be creating a haven for insurgency. When confronted with the fact, just a few months ago, that he had been warned by the C.I.A. he stated "They were just making an assumption. They weren't sure of their facts." Well he never told Congress or the American people that the C.I.A. had warned him about the probability of insurgency, he told us "We will be greeted as liberators." Again he believed what he wanted to believe, even over his own intelligence agencies. I'd say that's incompetence. Plus he mislead us. That's lying.

I told you! Now we find out about the Downing Street Memo.
