Memorial Day
by Al Grove
It's Memorial Day, we should have fun
picnicking and playing in the sun
but while you're cooking on the grill
remember the guys who went up a hill,
into the worst of the enemy fire
their situation was extremely dire
With their buddies falling to the ground
never again to make a sound.
Or the boys who died on Omaha Beach
when safety wasn't within their reach
With bullets in their bodies, they fell into the sea.
they gave their lives for you and me.
So while we're playing and having fun
Remember the boys and all they've done.
They fought hard and they were brave,
so cherish all the things they gave.
They gave their future to save our past
and to make sure that freedom would always last,
and our flag would fly in the noonday sun
over the schoolyards where children run.
Over the hills and over a field
so our constitution would never yield.
They laid in the mud, while their blood drained
so we'd always live where freedom reigned.
So on this day while we dance and play,
let's take the time to kneel and pray,
for those brave boys who are now departed
who died in battle, they were brave hearted.
Some of those hills were:
Bunker Hill (Revolutionary War) Big and little Round Top (Civil War)
San Juan Hill (Spanish American War) (Iwo Jima World War II Pacific front)
Battle of the bulge (World War II Europe) Hamburger Hill (Viet Nam)
and the list goes on.
