Back                                                            News from Iraq

I keep hearing that we don't hear any good news out of Iraq. Then I hear from the administration and Fox news that the reason we don't is that the Liberal media only wants to show death and destruction because that's what brings their ratings up, plus they want to undermine President Bush. Now if you've fallen into that trap your as gullible as some of my friends. (Some who have masters and/or doctorate degrees.) Let's take a look at the reasons they give us using a little common sense:
   1. If the liberal media is so determined to under cut the administration and Donald Rumsfeld's handling of the war, why did they make such a big deal of showing the good, no great, things that happened during the beginning of the war? I remember how the reporters cheered when we went into Baghdad; How they made a fuss as our troops were greeted by the people; They bragged about how easily we took over the country; every station and every newspaper showed the statue of Saddam Hussein coming down, over and over again; They showed the elections. Remember all the black finger? and the all the meetings of the new parliament. All in a great light.
Were they so anti war, anti Bush, anti Rumsfeld, then? Why did they change so much since?
   2. Why , today, do they still show every meeting between George Bush or Condi Rice with Tony Blair, Hamid Karzai, Mashariff or Prime Minister Allawi?
   3. Since almost all of the reporters are imbedded with the troops and since the army has photographers of their own, why don't we see more of the great things that are happening? Doesn't the army ever get near some of the new construction? Don't they ever go to town ir cities that are living in peace? Wouldn't Fox news like to show the new schools, hospitals, etc. Cities all lit up at night.
Could it be that they (The liberal media) are only reporting the news as it is in Iraq? Especially since we know that one of the most dangerous jobs in Iraq and even the world is being a reporter in Iraq.
Maybe we should stop blaming the messenger and just face the facts. The war in Iraq is not going as planned and won't. Not until we make some changes. We're heading straight for that iceberg and staying the course will only make sure we hit it.                            Al
