Back Other misleading statements
On the Estate Tax: David Keating executive director of the "Club for Growth" Made a statement, on CNN's Washington Journal, that investment earnings were taxed more then one time. Once when they were earned then again when you received your interest or dividends again with a sales tax and if you gained enough you were taxed again with the death tax.
OK, let's take a look to see how he was trying to deceive the average viewer. First the club is a pro Republican political action committee, which I have no qualms about, everyone has the right to their own ideas, but no one has the right to their own facts. The facts he had wrong were:
You're not taxed on the money you save or invest. You're only taxed on the interest or dividends you receive from that money. So you not taxed twice on the money you invest. Lie # 1
The sales tax would apply even it you hadn't invested the money in the first place but went right out and spent it. So saying that was an extra tax on the money you invested is misleading at the least. # 2
The death tax (Estate Tax) I've said before you can't tax a dead person. Only God can do that. So just calling the Estate Tax the Death Tax is also misleading #3
Now since a new person is receiving the inheritance (Money) it is a new tax on a new person. Not a tax on the same income that was taxed on the original earner. That's like saying that when you receive your paycheck you shouldn't be taxed on the money you made because your boss was already taxed on it when he first earned it. Distortion # 4
People who want something will say anything they feel will change your mind in their favor and it doesn't matter to some people whither or not they stretch or bend the truth or even if they lie. The result is all they care about.
So listen to what people say but use your common sense and if your not sure of what they are saying do a little research and find out the truth. You can sometimes figure out where they are coming from by understanding what their motives are.
Ethnic profiling saved the day?
Ann Coulter is at it again. In an article in her syndicated column on August 22nd 2006 she stated that (and I quote her) "We learned: 1) Nothing being done by airport security since 9/11 would prevent a bomb from being brought onto an airplane and 2) This terrorist plot - like all other terrorists plots - was stopped by ethnic profiling."
On # 1. All I can say is: Has she been blind for the past few years, or can't she read. I could have told her that a long time ago. How many times have you heard that, almost none of the cargo going into the cargo hold including personal luggage is being inspected? and why does she think the Democrats have been asking the Republican Congress time and again to add funds to airport security to upgrade the cargo inspections and also to pay for the technology to test liquids for explosives.
On # 2: Again she is making up her own facts. If you have been following the story you would have heard that intelligence discovered in Pakistan led to a group in Great Britain. (OK. so the group was made up of Moslems of Middle Eastern decent. They were however British citizens, most of whom were born there and carried British passports.) but they weren't caught by profiling they were caught by good intelligence.
As for all other terrorists plots being stopped by profiling, didn't we just stop a group of African Americans in Miami who were planning a terror attack in Chicago. I'd like her to explain to me how African men fit into the profile of Middle Eastern terrorists?
Later on in the article she writes: "As we now know, all the ingredients necessary to blow up an airplane can be carried in small liquid containers."
As we now know? I believe, no I know that, that fact has been common knowledge since a plot to blow several planes out of the air over the Pacific was broken up in the Philippians in the mid 90s.
Near the end of the article she mad another stupid statement. "-------. But it is a fact that you could not catch 14 Muslim terrorists by surveilling everyone in Britain equally."
I guess you couldn't catch middle eastern terrorists while watching blond haired Germans but you might catch a terrorist and since Muslim is religion a blond haired German might have converted. Remember John Walker Lindh, The American Taliban. Another thing I'd like to point out to her is: With the amount of Middle Easterners living in Great Britain It would be damn hard, (No it would be impossible.) to maintain surveillance on all of them anyway.
I only wish, before she wrote an article, she would take the time it do some research. As I've said before anyone has the right to their own opinion but nobody has the right to their own facts. Ann Coulter makes statements on her opinions as if they were facts. The main problem is that most of the time she is dead wrong.
