Random Thoughts:                                                             Back

1. If going into the service during war is such a great political advantage for yourself or family members, as the  republican party suggested about Al Gore's service in Vietnam during his father's senate race, how come none of the Bush children have joined. I saw Jeb Bush's son at the RNC the other night & he looked healthy to me.
2. Why is John McCain backing George Bush after the way Bush treated him during their primary in 2000? My guess & it’s only a guess, is that John McCain is going to run for president again in 2008. George Bush, if he wins, will then be ineligible to run for a third term & Dick Chaney won’t run. This leaves the Republican nomination up for grabs but if he runs he has to mend fences & can’t in anyway offend the leadership of the Republican party.
12/13/04: (CNN) WASHINGTON (AP) -- Sen. John McCain, the straight-talking Republican who often challenges the GOP establishment, has taken on a headline-grabbing issue -- steroids in baseball -- and generated talk of a presidential bid in 2008.  I told you so.
3. How come the far right, who so easily forgave Newt Gingrich, Jim Baker, & Jimmy Swaggart, can't find it in their hearts to do the same for Bill Clinton? The former only try to take from them when Bill Clinton tried to help them.
4. What ever happened to the Americans of the 1960s? Who when John F. Kennedy said "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." cheered and became proud to be Americans.  Today it seems that a large majority of Americans are so selfish that they want it the other way around, especially the rich.
There are quite a few Americans who never got to live in those vibrant times. Who don't remember the civil rights movement, the anti Vietnam war movement or the fight for woman's equality. So many of the things we take for granted today came out of that era. We had heroes, not just our brothers or sisters who are fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan and they are real heroes too, but heroes who stood out from all others. Heroes like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., John F. & Robert Kennedy, Mahatma Gandhi, or Mother Teresa.  John Kerry had a hero, he idolized John F. Kennedy and he learned from him. Maybe, just maybe, if we're smart, we can win back Camelot.
5. Have you ever wondered why there have been so many leaks of politically beneficial intelligence? (The name of an captured  al-Qa'ida operative during a ongoing investigation. We had broken an al-Qa'ida code while the code was still a viable information source.) or about democrats? (Sandy Burger investigation- Case dropped. Joe Wilson's wife was a C.I.A. operative.) and there are more. These leaks from the most secretive administration in the history of the country.
6. How come this President still has so much support. Could it be that most of his support comes from people who are easily influenced? You know who I mean, the same people who when Jim & Tammy Fay Baker say they are sorry & pray for forgiveness, after swindling them out of their hard earned cash, allow Jim to go back into religion and again give him their hard earned cash. Or weep with Jimmy Swaggart as he stands in front of a camera and with tears running down his face prays "Lord forgive me I let you down" after cheating on his wife. Then believe he is serious and send him their hard earned cash. Or believe Pat Robertson when, on the 700 club, he asks for prayers to turn a hurricane away from, I think it was Fla., and then when an expected high pressure system reaches the coast in time & the storm is pushed out to sea. claims that the prayers saved the people of the area. Praise the Lord, send me your money. What happened this year. Didn't they pray, wasn't God listening, or maybe there just wasn't a high pressure system nearby.
On a snowy day about 10 years ago, while home from school because of the snow, Tiffany (age 8) and Melanie (age 6) were surfing the TV for comics & happened to find Robert Tilton while he was speaking in tongue. They sat mesmerized, then as he started speaking, again in English, and asking everybody watching to send money, they broke out laughing and asked me. "Butch, nobody falls for that do they?" The sad thing is that some people do. And the dangerous thing is that these same people will believe Karl Rove & vote for George Bush.
7. How come George Bush needs to put a young girl on a T.V. ad to prove that he is a compassionate as the average American? What human wouldn't hug a young girl who lost a family member in a disaster? Could it be that his policies are just not compassionate enough. I mean he doesn't seem to mind shipping the working man's jobs overseas & doesn't seem to care about all the kids who are living in poverty or without health insurance.
8. How come when John Kerry puts on a camouflage suit, to go hunting, the vice president makes fun of him but when George Bush puts on a flight suit they think that's great? John Kerry has been hunting since he was a kid. George Bush hasn't flown since he left the Air National Guard during the Vietnam war.
9. How come George Bush can't bring himself to ask the American people, especially the rich, to make some sacrifices in order to fight the war on Terrorism & Iraq as John F. Kennedy did during the Berlin crisis. See a quote from Kennedy. "The details on all these requests will be presented to the Congress tomorrow. Subsequent steps will be taken to suit subsequent needs. Comparable efforts for the common defense are being discussed with our NATO allies. For their commitment and interest are as precise as our own. And let me add that I am well aware of the fact that many American families will bear the burden of these requests. Studies or careers will be interrupted; husbands and sons will be called away; incomes in some cases will be reduced. But these are burdens which must be borne if freedom is to be defended--Americans have willingly borne them before--and they will not flinch from the task now." 10. Kennedy also said in his inaugural address. "So let us begin anew--remembering on both sides that civility is not a sign of weakness, and sincerity is always subject to proof. Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate." How come George Bush has such a hard time understanding what J. F. Kennedy know in his heart to be true?
11. How come we went back to a yellow alert for the entire country, (We were on orange for N.Y. City & Washington) just over one week after the presidential elections? We have been on it for months. Could it be that keeping the "security moms" nervous was a good election ploy? I don't know but I just don't trust George Bush & Karl Rove.
