Some things you can do to stay Safe.                                                  Back

Read & talk this page over with you Mommy & Daddy.

l.  Yell! and keep yelling. Don't just scream, Yell "Help, stranger." let people know your in trouble.
2.  Run! If a stranger tries to lure you, "Could you help me? I lost my puppy." "Look at the kittens I have in the front seat.
Would you like one?" etc. Run, to the nearest house or to a crowded area and tell someone what just happened.
Don't try to run and hide. Say in the woods behind the houses. That would put you alone and in real danger.
3. You are grabbed! Fight, wiggle and if your feet are on the ground run in a circle around the person, you'll be making
him spin and he may loose his balance. If you break loose keep running. (See # 2) Put up your feet and block him
from getting you in the car, put those feet on the door or side of the car, don't let them go in.
4.  If your riding your bike and a stranger or anyone grabs you and tries to put you in a car, hug your bike. By wrapping
your arms around your bike it makes it almost impossible to get you in a car and even if they could it would take too
long. Remember they want to get you in the car and get out of the area.
5.  You've been put in the car, get out. The man puts you in the front seat then runs around the car to get in the drivers
side you can go right back out the door he just put you in, even if he runs back and catches you it still took time and
help may, since you've been yelling "Help, stranger.", all the time.
6.  A car won't start if it doesn't have ignition wires. If you know where they are grab them and give them a good pull.
(Ask your Mom or Dad to show you where they are) you can't always get to them but sometimes you can. You may
also if you have a small twig or a toothpick and have time stick it into the ignition blocking him from starting the car.
If  it's running turn it off, pull out the keys and throw them as far as you can out the window  or even into the backseat,
it will take time for the person to retrieve them. Your fighting for time and a chance to get away. Remember you can't
get the keys out of the ignition if the car is running, you have to turn it off first.
7.   I've had trouble finding people. I've gotten to their street, only to find I forgot the house number. I went to one of the
houses and ask the adult if they knew where the Walsh family lived. I wouldn't ask a child, most people wouldn't. So
if someone asks you for directions. Say "No, sorry" and Leave.
8.   Make up a password (Phrase) that only you and your mommy & daddy know. "Grand mom Amy has going fishing."
If someone knows the phrase, they had to get it from one of you. If they don't know it they're a stranger.
9.   Use any means you can to hurt your abductor. Don't be afraid to Bite.
10. Get to know your neighbors and when each one is home. That way you'll know when you run to the nearest house
      someone will be there.
11. Your put in the trunk of a car. Pull the wires to the tail & brake lights. Hopefully a police officer will pull the car over
for a equipment violation and find you. Have Mommy or Daddy show you how. You may also be able to kick out
those lights & throw small things out of the hole or stick your fingers out & wiggle them maybe somebody will notice
      & contact the police.
12. Have your Mommy or Daddy find out how to open the trunk from the inside, (They can ask at a gas Station.) then
they can show you. You may never need the information but it could save your life, so find out how to do it.
13   If you have an  I. D. bracelet or something else recognizable wait awhile then throw it where someone is sure to find it
or better yet toward someone. It will give the people who are searching for you a direction. (You were taken from
the park on 5th St. & your object was found at 23rd St. Your heading north.) We can pull the searchers  from the
area S of 5th St and have more people searching in the area where you probable are.
14. If the person gets you in the car try to remember directions (Names of streets etc. anything that will, if you get a
chance, allow you to tell someone where you are. Know your Phone Number & how to make a phone call from a
phone booth without money.  Remember 911
15. Remember to get a description of the abductor. Color of eyes, hair, skin, cloths they're wearing, car, They're height,
weight (Fat? Skinny?) The car & License Plate Number & State. (Let's get that guy off the street before he tries it
      again.)
16. T-shirts an other items of clothing with your name on them are cute, but they tell strangers what your name is & they
can then call you by name. It makes it seem like they know you. Always remember when you have a item with
your name on it. Don't be fooled. Remember they could also have asked one of your friends what your name is. So
just because a person calls you be name doesn't mean they're not a stranger. While were thinking about it. If anyone
asks you the name of a friend, report it to an adult that you know.
17. Your taken from a store. knocking things off a shelf should cause you to get attention or taking an item may bring the
store detective to stop you as a lot of the items have a thing that has to be neutralized or it will set off an alarm as you
     try to leave the store.
18. Tell your friends to read this page.

     right.
4.  There are certain kinds of strangers that can assist me when I need help. For instance: mothers with children, other
children, police in uniform or store clerks in the mall.
5.  I will walk and play at places my parents said were OK. I will avoid shortcuts or alleys.
6.  I will not allow adults to trick or force me into going places or doing things like; help find pets, carry packages, take
pictures, play games, or take drugs with them. I will always check with my parents first.

                                                                          Fire Safety

l. Make sure Mommy & Daddy have smoke detectors & that they work.
2. Have a family escape plan.
3. Never open a door unless you feel it to make sure it's not hot.
4. Smoke rises so the better air is near the floor, stay low.
5. Hold your breath if the air is really hot, Breathing flames or extremely hot air will burn your lungs making it impossible
    to breath (You'll die)
6. Don't break or open a window unless you plan to escape through it as you may be feeding the fire oxygen.
7. Don't try to put out a grease fire with water, Cover it with something, like a lid.
8. The fire starts at an electrical outlet or wire. Don't throw water on it. Water conducts electricity. Call Mommy or
Daddy and get out of the house. If the fire is at the outlet, pull the plug out by the cord but far away from the outlet.
Cords are rubber coated & don't conduct electricity.
9. Don't play with matches or any fire. (FIRE IS NOT A TOY.)

                                                                               For Parents:

1. Have a good, recent photo of your child. We take a lot of photo's of our our kids playing with their cousins, neighbor
kids, pets, etc. we take action shots at little league etc., but do we have a good head and shoulder portrait. Next time
we're going to a game or family reunion let's take a good portrait first, then we can shoot the other action shots.
2. Have your children fingerprinted and keep a set of those prints in a safe place. I hope you'll never need them, but if
    you do, you'll have them.
3. How about a D.N.A. kit. A small jar with some of your child's hair, nail clippings, blood sample. etc.
