The Whale's Song
I heard a whale singing tonight
over toward Sir Francis Drake Passage.
The moonlight heard it too
as it danced along the top of the waves
to reach the boat
Laying on the deck. Surrounded by moonlight,
listening to the whale,
I got to thinking about you.
We met on a beach, Remember?
There were no whales and no moonlight,
only the sand, and the sea, and you and me.
There were seagulls but their songs weren't as pretty as the whales,
but that was long ago
when we were young and fell in love
and chased the seagulls and kissed in the waves.
in that mystical time
before you went away.
I heard a whale singing tonight
A sad and lonely song.
