Vice Presidents:                                                                  Back

I've heard several times from the President that the difference between John Edwards & Dick Cheney was that Dick Cheney could be president, implying that John Edwards couldn't. I'd like to remind George Bush that during a debate before he became president he (George Bush) didn't know the name of the President of Pakistan (Pervez Musharraf). Would he have said the same about himself? As a Governor he had less knowledge, then any senator, of foreign affairs & also less knowledge of the intricacies of working with the legislative branch of our government.
Do you, after seeing his outburst against Patrick Lahey, believe that Dick Cheney would be a good president? If you do think about this: Dick Chaney to  Pervez Musharraf "We have to do something about your northern border, al-Qu'ida operatives are crossing into your country to escape our troops." "I realize that but because of the loyalty of some of the local tribes to al-Qu'ida it's almost impossible for us to do anything." Cheney  "Ah! go **** yourself."   It may seem farfetched but anything similar would set our foreign policy back years. He is another self-righteous person who believes that he & only he has the answers & if you don't agree with him, your wrong.
John Edwards has always fought for the little person, granted he got rich doing it but he still helped. Dick Chaney got rich too but he did it running Halliburton one of our nations largest polluters. Both are very intelligent men but I feel that John Edwards is the more compassionate of the two & I want a president who cares about all of us & who will lead for all of us.
The best way you can get informative information on their differences is to watch their debate. I hope you will not only watch the debate but will record it & then go over it again. Check their statements, are they misleading? What are their plans & are they feasible? Do they respect each other or are they argumentative or arrogant? Then decide who you are most comfortable with.
John Edwards was one of the best of the best as a trial lawyer. A man in high demand, one feared by insurance companies. He could have made millions more by just staying where he was but he decided to run for public office so he could help change policy for the betterment of his country. He had nothing to gain. Dick Chaney may have had nothing to gain either but Halliburton sure did.

9/7/04 CNN: Dick Cheney told supporters "We need to make the right choice in the November 2 election."
"If we make the wrong choice, then the danger is that we'll get hit again -- that we'll be hit in a way that will be devastating from the standpoint of the United States, and then we'll fall back into the pre-9/11 mindset, if you will, that in fact these terrorist attacks are just criminal acts and that we're not really at war. I think that would be a terrible mistake for us."
Notice that he said pre 9/11 mindset not pre-Bush mind set. Bill Clinton had daily meetings with his Terror advisories on: The latest intelligence, latest intercepted communications, The latest known whereabouts of Ben Laden, If there was enough information for a try to take out any of the leadership of al-Qu'ida, (As in the missile strike that the Republicans referred to Wagging the dog.) and many other terror related subjects. (9/11 commission report) I hope we'd go back to that mind set. We'd be a lot safer.  Bill Clinton knew we were at war & told Bush & his team as much, they just didn't pay attention.
As for being safer under this administration see Are we really safer?

Let's talk about a past Vice President. One that actually won the presidency. Yes I'm talking about Al Gore. I kept hearing how he wasn't as personable, as the down to earth or as plain speaking as George Bush. Now I don't know about you but I don't want to have a beer with my president. Have the American public become so, I can't think of another word so I'll just say it, Stupid that they want a person who is less intelligent but more amiable to run the affairs of our country.
Al Gore accomplished more then any other vice president for the good of the American people but they couldn't relate to him. He was just too intelligent for them. You couldn't just listen to him, you had to take the time to think about what he said. He just didn't or couldn't talk, as George Bush & Dick Cheney do, in sound bites. So he seemed standoffish.
I keep hearing that it's a good thing that it was George Bush and not Al Gore that was the president at 9/11. I feel cheated, I think that that Al Gore would have fought a more intelligent and effective war on terrorism. He also would have attacked Afghanistan but I feel he would have been able figure out that he would have to finish off the Taliban and al-Qa'ida. He would also have been able to foresee the results of an attack on Iraq. I don't think he would have given al-Qa'ida the benefit of the recruiting tool that they now have because of George Bush. He would have fought a more  intelligent war.
